What is video resolution?
Video resolution is the number of pixels in each frame. A 1920 x 1080 video has 1920 pixels across and 1080 pixels from top to bottom. Higher resolution usually means more detail, but it can also mean larger files and slower uploads.
Resolution
A video's resolution is written as width by height. For example, 1920 x 1080 means each frame is 1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels tall.
Common video resolutions
Most online videos use a few standard 16:9 resolutions. Higher resolutions contain more pixels per frame, which usually means sharper details and larger files.
- 720p is a lightweight HD format often used for previews and smaller uploads.
- 1080p is Full HD and is still one of the most common choices for YouTube, tutorials, and social video.
- 1440p gives you a sharper 2K-style frame, useful for screen recordings and detailed interface videos.
- 4K gives the most detail in this group and is best for high-quality exports or large displays.
Each rectangle keeps the same 16:9 shape. The larger the rectangle, the more pixels each video frame contains.
